David Kirouac-USA TODAY Sports

The Anaheim Ducks announced Thursday the signing of forward Sam Colangelo to a two-year, entry-level contract. He will join the Ducks immediately.

The 22-year-old Colangelo ranked fifth in the NCAA in goals this season, scoring a career-high 24 during his senior campaign at Western Michigan University. He also had 19 assists for 43 total points in 38 games. All his offensive numbers were career highs in college.

The 6-foot-2 native of Stoneham, Mass. was drafted by the Ducks in the second round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, then spent three seasons at Northeastern University before transferring to Western Michigan this year.

He signed a professional tryout (PTO) with the San Diego Gulls, the Ducks’ AHL affiliate, on April 1. He scored a goal and three assists for four points in four games, including a goal and assist in his first game.

Before going to college, Colangelo played for the Chicago Steel of the USHL, scoring 28 goals and 30 assists for 58 points in 44 games in 2019-20.

He won a gold medal with the U.S. National Junior team at the 2021 World Junior Championship.

The Ducks are 26-48-5 with 57 points, seventh in the Pacific Division and the third-worst record in the entire league. They have three games left on the season, starting Friday at home against the Calgary Flames, Saturday on the road against the Los Angeles Kings and next Thursday in Las Vegas against the Golden Knights.
